Train Collision in Odisha: Helpline Numbers, List of Cancelled, Diverted Trains

Indian Railways has cancelled or diverted numerous trains heading towards Howrah, Puri, and other stations following a tragic accident of the Coromandel Express and Yeshwanthpur Howrah Express in Odisha's Balasore district.

Train Accident

According to the most recent report, officials stated that at least 300 individuals were injured and there were fears of several fatalities. This occurred when several coaches of 12864 Bengaluru-Howrah superfast express travelling to Howrah, derailed at Bahanagabazar and fell on the upline. These derailed coaches collided with Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express and its coaches capsized too. Subsequently, it collided head-on with a goods train traveling in the opposite direction on the adjacent track.

After the train accident, the railways released a list of trains that have been cancelled or diverted, along with the corresponding helpline numbers.

Train Number 22817: Control at 21.12 HRS, power to be reversed & diverted via Tata.
Train Number 15929: Control at RNTL 19.32 HRS, to be returned back to BHC.
Train Number 22807: Proposed control at BCK from 21.10, diverted via Tata.
Train Number 22873: Control at PKU from 19.56 HRS, diverted via Tata.
Train Number 18409: Control at ULB from 20.10 HRS, diverted via Tata.

The Chief Secretary of Odisha, Pradeep Jena, tweeted that NDRF and SDRF teams, along with 600-700 rescue personnel, were present at the site. Rescue operations would continue throughout the night, with support provided by all hospitals. The priority is to rescue the victims.

The Coromandel Express, originating from Shalimar station in West Bengal, commenced its journey at 3:30 pm today and was scheduled to reach Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MG Ramachandran Central Railway Station in Chennai tomorrow at 4:50 pm. The other train involved was en route to Kolkata from Bengaluru, as confirmed by Railway Ministry spokesperson Amitabh Sharma to the media.
