The ongoing construction of the Ganga Expressway has led to significant traffic adjustments along the Lucknow-Kanpur Highway, particularly near the Sonik turn in Unnao. This development is part of efforts to install 16 girders for a new flyover, a critical phase in the expressway's construction.

Temporary Traffic Diversions
Starting Monday, one side of the highway from Lucknow to Kanpur has been temporarily closed. Vehicles from both directions are now sharing a single lane on the opposite side, causing slower traffic movement.
Previously, construction focused on the Kanpur-to-Lucknow lane, which required traffic rerouting over a 200-meter stretch for 52 days. This phase was completed on December 12. The current focus has shifted to the Lucknow-to-Kanpur side, where traffic is being rerouted at Bashiratganj and directed back to its original lanes after the Sonik turn.
Efforts to Manage Congestion
To alleviate congestion, additional traffic personnel have been deployed throughout the affected stretch. Their strategic placement aims to ensure smoother traffic flow and minimize delays. The authorities are working diligently to maintain order and reduce disruption to commuters while advancing the expressway's construction.
Advice for Commuters
Drivers using the Lucknow-Kanpur Highway are advised to plan for potential delays and exercise caution when approaching the Sonik turn in Unnao. Patience is key as vehicles navigate the rerouted lanes.
This phase of construction marks a crucial milestone in the Ganga Expressway project, with efforts in place to balance progress with commuter convenience. The installation of the 16 girders is expected to take at least one month, after which normal traffic flow will resume.
