All the remaining gaps in Kolkata Metro's much-awaited Orange Line connecting New Garia to the airport are expected to be completed by next year with support from the state government, Metro officials said. Traffic blocks will be imposed at Chingrighata on EM Bypass during the second and third weekends of

November to lift concrete piers and bridge a 366-metre gap in the viaduct, one of the most crucial missing links on the route. Currently, trains run only between New Garia and Beleghata.
Orange Line Construction
Besides Chingrighata, construction work is pending in four other areas, including Chinar Park, Nabadiganta (Technopolis), and Nazrul Tirtha, where small gaps in the viaduct and incomplete station structures remain. The state government has approved granting traffic blocks in phases to speed up the work. According to Metro Railway General Manager Subhransu Sekhar Mishra, the 31 km-long Orange Line should be fully constructed by the end of 2026, with operations beginning a few months later. Police officials stated that traffic block permissions will continue to be reviewed as the work progresses. The airport was recently connected to the Metro network through the Yellow Line between Noapara and Jai Hind Bimanbandar stations. Once the Orange Line is operational, the airport will serve as a junction for multiple Metro routes: Yellow, Blue (North-South), and Green (East-West).
Pending Works
At Chinar Park, station work is still pending, while at Nabadiganta, both viaduct gaps and station finishing are incomplete. The final task involves bridging about 450 metres between Nabadiganta and Nazrul Tirtha using five girders. After months of delay, the Chingrighata viaduct issue was resolved through talks among government agencies, following a directive from the Calcutta High Court. Construction will proceed with police-approved night traffic blocks and a temporary diversion road built through the East Calcutta Wetlands.
