Tamil Nadu, one of the leading states in tourism in India, is constantly introducing innovative facilities and amenities to make trips more comfortable and enjoyable for visitors. This article provides an insight into one such facility introduced at the Botanical Garden in Ooty.

Focus on Tourism in Tamil Nadu
According to the India Tourism Statistics report of 2023, Tamil Nadu ranks second in terms of domestic tourist visits in 2022. The government of Tamil Nadu has consistently prioritized the tourism sector, introducing new amenities to facilitate sightseeing for tourists. This commitment to enhancing tourism is evident in the recent introduction of a battery car at the Botanical Garden in Ooty, located in the Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu.

Battery Car at Botanical Garden: An Innovative Step
The 55-hectare Botanical Garden in Ooty, home to a diverse range of plant and rare tree species, is a prime tourist hotspot. To make traversing this large area easier, particularly for elderly visitors, the authorities have introduced an electric car. This car, chargeable in six hours and capable of driving up to 40 kilometres in the plains and 35 kilometres in hilly areas, is stationed near the garden's entrance. Visitors can avail of this facility for an additional fee, with the vehicle accommodating 7 to 8 people at a time.

Accessing the Botanical Garden
The Botanical Garden, situated 2.6 km from the Ooty Bus Stand, is accessible via Commercial Road. Established in 1897 by the Marquis of Tweedale, the garden boasts a 20 million-year-old fossilized tree, making it a must-visit destination for tourists.

The introduction of the battery car at the Botanical Garden in Ooty exemplifies Tamil Nadu's commitment to enhancing tourism. This innovative step, which prioritizes visitor comfort, signals a positive trend in Indian tourism, promising better and more tourist-friendly amenities in the future.
