The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has completed and submitted the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Thiruvananthapuram Metro project. The report has been handed over to Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), which is the agency responsible for implementing the metro project in Thiruvananthapuram. KMRL will now examine the

report before sending it to the Kerala government for approval. Once the state government approves the proposal, the project can move to the next stage of planning and implementation.
Thiruvananthapuram Metro Project DPR
According to the DPR, the first phase of the Thiruvananthapuram Metro will include a 31-km-long corridor with 27 metro stations. The route will connect Pappanamcode and Enchakkal, passing through important areas such as Pattom, Government Medical College, Kazhakkoottam, Akkulam, and Thiruvananthapuram International Airport.
How will this Project Benefit Passengers?
The planned metro line is expected to improve public transport in the city by providing faster and more convenient travel. It will connect residential areas, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, business centres, and the airport, making daily commuting easier for thousands of passengers.
The project is also expected to help reduce traffic congestion on major roads and encourage more people to use public transport instead of private vehicles. Better connectivity is likely to support the city's future growth and improve access to key locations.
As part of the first phase, a metro maintenance depot will be built at Kazhakkoottam. The depot will be used for the inspection, repair, cleaning, and maintenance of metro trains, ensuring their safe and efficient operation.
The submission of the DPR is an important milestone for the Thiruvananthapuram Metro project. After KMRL reviews the report and the Kerala government approves, the project will move closer to execution. Once completed, the metro is expected to become a major part of the city's transport network, offering residents and visitors a faster, safer, and more reliable mode of travel.
