The Kapileswar temple, which is close to Bhubaneswar, has been declared a 'Monument of National Importance' by the Central government.
This announcement, which also demands prompt monitoring and safeguarding of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), was recently made by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
It further specified that any objections or suggestions to the declaration may be submitted to the Director General, ASI, within two months after the day the notification was issued. The Central Government shall take into account any objections or suggestions, if any, submitted concerning the aforementioned draft notification within the time frame stated.
This news has been shared on Twitter by Aparajita Sarangi, Bhubaneswar MP. She stated, "Ministry of Culture, GoI, decides to declare Kapileshwar Temple, Old Bhubaneswar, as 'Monument of National Importance'. On request of the temple priests, I had visited the temple sometime back. Held discussions with the residents. Met Minister G Kishan Reddy on 4th April, '23.

She also wrote, "Grateful to Minister G Kishan Reddy & ASI for acting so promptly. On 5th May, 2023, the Gazette Notification has been brought out. Kapileshwar Temple will go to the Protected Monument list of ASI. Better preservation, better upkeep. Temple priests & residents are happy,"

One of the oldest still-existing temples in the state of Odisha, Kapilesvara Siva Temple, commonly referred to as Kapilesvar Temple, dates to the 14th century. Shiva, a Hindu god, is worshipped in this temple under the name Kapileswara.
