The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) will operate 2,655 special buses across Tamil Nadu to manage the expected increase in weekend passenger movement from major bus terminals in Chennai and other cities.
Tamil Nadu State Special Buses
From the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus (KCBT) in Kilambakkam, special buses will operate to Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchy, Kumbakonam, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Kanniyakumari, Thoothukudi, Coimbatore, Salem, Erode and Tirupur. On Friday, September 18, 760 special buses will operate from KCBT, while 520 buses will run on Saturday, September 19.
From the CMBT in Koyambedu, special services will run to Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Hosur, and Bengaluru. A total of 115 buses will be operated on Friday and Saturday. In addition, 200 special buses will operate from Bengaluru, Tirupur, Erode and Coimbatore to various destinations. The Madhavaram Bus Terminus will also operate special buses to Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchy, Kumbakonam, Vellore, Hosur and Puducherry. As many as 70 special buses will operate each day on Friday and Saturday. To help passengers return to Chennai and Bengaluru from their hometowns, TNSTC will operate another 805 special buses on Sunday, September 20, depending on passenger demand.
According to the Managing Director of the State Express Transport Corporation, 7,812 passengers had booked tickets for Friday, 4,001 for Saturday, and 8,946 for Sunday, and more bookings are expected.
