To make railway travel easier and smarter, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched a brand-new mobile app called SwaRail. Designed for both Android and iOS users, this app is more than just a ticket booking tool. From checking PNR status to tracking trains live and even ordering food, SwaRail is made to simplify the journey for railway passengers across India. It has been developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) and is currently available in early access mode, which means more updates and improvements will be added in the future.

An All-in-One App for Train Travel
SwaRail brings many features into one easy-to-use app. It helps users not just to book tickets but also to plan their journey, check train delays, track train movement in real time, and get coach position details. One of the most helpful tools in the app is the ability to order food from partner vendors directly during the journey.
Passengers can also request refunds for canceled or missed trains. Another helpful feature is 'Rail Madad', where users can raise complaints or give feedback to Indian Railways. This allows for better communication and faster responses.
Early Access with Full Services
Even though SwaRail is in early access, it already offers full services. People who already use IRCTC services can easily log in with their existing IRCTC ID and password. For new users, there is a simple sign-up process. The app also supports multiple Indian languages and allows users to edit their details under the 'My Account' tab. These features show how the app is made for a wide range of people across the country.
SwaRail also includes the R-Wallet for quick and secure payments. This wallet can be used to make bookings and other payments within the app.
How to Book Tickets on SwaRail
Booking a train ticket with SwaRail is easy. First, users need to download the app and log in using their IRCTC account. If they don't have an account, they can create one directly in the app. After logging in, users can access the 'Journey Planner' which offers three ticket types-Reserved, Unreserved, and Platform tickets.
For booking a Reserved ticket, users enter details like departure and destination stations, travel date, class, and quota. The app then shows a list of available trains and seats. After selecting the desired train, passengers need to fill in their details and review their journey summary.
The final step is payment, which can be done through R-Wallet, UPI, debit/credit cards, or net banking. The app clearly shows the convenience fee for each payment method. Once the payment is complete, tickets can be viewed, shared, or emailed from the 'My Bookings' section.
Helpful Features for a Better Travel Experience
Apart from booking, SwaRail offers many features to make traveling smoother. The live train tracking helps passengers stay informed about train delays or arrival times. Knowing your coach's position before the train arrives also helps travelers board easily.
Food ordering is made simple, with the app linking to approved vendors. The refund request option helps travelers in case they cancel or miss their trains. The app's support for multiple languages and the direct complaint feature via Rail Madad adds to its user-friendliness.
A New Step in Railway Digitalization
SwaRail is a major step by IRCTC to make railway travel more digital and user-focused. With its clean design, easy navigation, and useful tools, the app is ready to become a daily travel companion for millions of passengers. As the app continues to improve and add more features, it is likely to change how people in India plan and enjoy their railway journeys.
The launch of SwaRail marks a new beginning in the world of train travel in India. It is not just an app but a complete travel partner, offering everything from ticket booking to real-time updates and even food delivery. With simple features and a smooth experience, SwaRail is expected to become a must-have app for all railway passengers.
