Surat Metro reached an important milestone on Sunday as its first trial run was successfully conducted on the Diamond Corridor after years of construction and delays. However, it marks the start of testing before the metro opens for public use.

Surat Metro's First Trial Run
The train ran on an 8.5 km stretch between Dream City and Althan Tenament, and this section includes seven stations, all of which are now structurally ready. Officials said that major work, such as building the viaduct and laying tracks on this route, has been completed. The stations are also almost finished, with entry and exit points and other final touches nearing completion.
As part of the testing process, the metro will undergo about 500 hours of trial runs. These tests will check safety, performance, and system reliability. After this, approvals will be required from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) and the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO). Only after these clearances will the metro be opened to the public.
Surat Metro Extension
With this progress, authorities expect metro services to be extended up to Majura Gate on both corridors. However, before starting passenger operations, several steps still need to be completed.
Surat Metro Corridor
The Surat Metro project is spread over 40.3 km and has two main corridors. The Diamond Corridor is 21.6 km long, running from Dream City to Sarthana, and includes 20 stations, six of which are underground. The second route, called the Textile Corridor, is 18.7 km long and connects Bhesan to Saroli with 18 stations.
Work on part of the Textile Corridor up to Adajan Gam is already complete, and trials there are expected soon. Officials are planning to start initial metro services on the Dream City-Majura and Bhesan-Majura sections in the near future.
