Iconic Statue of Unity to Host Dual Safari Park: Lions and Tigers Await Visitors

Tourists visiting the iconic Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat, may soon embark on an extraordinary wildlife expedition featuring two apex predators - Asiatic lions and tigers. According to a senior official, the Gujarat government has proposed an ambitious "twin-adventure" safari park, currently awaiting review by the Central Zoo Authority of India (CZAI). If approved, this innovative project promises to offer visitors a unique opportunity to encounter these magnificent creatures in a single trip.

Statue of Unity to Host Dual Safari Park

The proposed safari park will comprise separate yet interconnected zones dedicated to lions and tigers, spanning a sprawling 100-hectare area located approximately 6 kilometers from the Statue of Unity. Designed to replicate the natural habitats of the animals, these safari zones aim to provide an immersive wildlife experience for tourists.

"The lion safari will draw inspiration from the successful Devaliya Safari Park, showcasing the harmonious coexistence of lions and humans in Gujarat's Gir forest," revealed the official. Meanwhile, the tiger safari is expected to incorporate elements reminiscent of exhibits found at the ZSL London Zoo, offering visitors an unparalleled glimpse into the world of these majestic creatures.

For an unforgettable wildlife adventure, tourists will have the option to embark on guided bus tours or open jeep safaris within the safari enclosures. Each zone is projected to house eight big cats, including two male lions, two lionesses, four cubs, and an equivalent number of tigers. Lions will be sourced from Sakkarbaug Zoo, while tigers will be acquired through an exchange program with zoos across the country.

The introduction of this unique safari park holds immense potential to elevate tourism in Kevadia, attracting both domestic and international visitors seeking unparalleled wildlife experiences. However, the proposal is subject to CZAI approval, which will assess various factors including animal welfare and habitat suitability before granting permission for the project's implementation.

If approved, the twin-adventure safari park near the Statue of Unity is poised to redefine wildlife tourism in Gujarat, offering visitors an unforgettable journey into the realm of Asiatic lions and tigers amidst the picturesque backdrop of Kevadia's scenic landscape.
