The new system, as announced in a press release, brings forth a streamlined approach with updated requirements, fees, and validity periods for visas in Sri Lanka. Developed in collaboration with IVS Global Institute and GBS Technology Service, the e-visa system replaces the existing Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) method. This transition is tailored to make the visa application process more user-friendly, ensuring a smoother experience for travellers.

The Sri Lanka eVisa is open to all eligible nationalities intending to visit the country for tourism, business, or transit purposes, whether by air or sea. However, nationals of Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Syria, and North Korea must apply for a visa through the Sri Lankan embassy or the Department of Immigration & Emigration, Sri Lanka.

Required documents for these nationals include:

Visa exemptions apply for citizens of Singapore, Maldives, Seychelles, and The Czech Republic, based on reciprocity. They are exempt from obtaining a tourist standard 6 months eVisa to visit Sri Lanka.

All nationals are eligible for an eVisa waiver if transiting from any of the Sri Lankan airports. The waiver is valid for a 2-day transit period only.
