The initiative not only facilitates easier access but also saves visitors the hassle and expenses associated with acquiring a visa. This decision underscores the growing desire for enhanced connectivity and cooperation between Sri Lanka and its neighboring countries.

Spearheading the initiative, Sri Lanka's Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Sabry took to social media to announce the implementation of the free visa program. The move comes in the wake of the country's concerted efforts to strengthen its bond with India, with a focus on fostering collaborations in key areas such as electricity, renewable energy, tourism, and port shipping connectivity. The visa-free entry is expected to promote tourism and facilitate a greater exchange of cultural and historical experiences between India and Sri Lanka.

Previously, Indian travelers were required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) document before visiting Sri Lanka. With the implementation of the visa-free travel initiative, travelers can now enjoy a hassle-free journey without the need for prior documentation, saving time and expenses in the process.
