India is preparing to introduce its first-ever sleeper version of the Vande Bharat Express, a train already known for its speed, comfort, and modern features. The new Delhi-Patna Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is expected to begin regular service by the end of this month, giving passengers a comfortable overnight

travel option between the two cities.
Number of Coaches
The train will have 16 coaches offering a total of 827 berths. These include 11 Third AC coaches with 611 berths, 4 Second AC coaches with 188 berths, and 1 First AC coach with 24 berths. The interiors have been specially designed to provide passengers with a smooth, safe, and pleasant journey.
Operation Timings
The sleeper Vande Bharat will operate six days a week, similar to the regular Vande Bharat trains. It will leave Patna in the evening, around the same time as the New Delhi-Rajendra Nagar Tejas Rajdhani, and reach Delhi the next morning. The return trip will follow the same pattern, making it a convenient choice for travellers who prefer overnight journeys.
Features of Vande Bharat
This new version of Vande Bharat includes several advanced technologies and safety features. Passengers will find automatic doors, bio-toilets, CCTV cameras for security, and personal reading lights at each berth. The train is designed with a crash-resistant structure and an armour-like anti-collision system. It can run at speeds up to 160 km/h, combining fast travel with high safety standards.
Future Expansion
Indian Railways has also planned for future expansion. If demand increases, the number of coaches can be raised from 16 to 24 without compromising comfort or efficiency. The first coach of the sleeper train has already been built at Bharat Earthmovers Limited (BEML) in Bengaluru and will be handed over to Northern Railway on December 12. A trial run on the Delhi-Patna route will take place soon after, clearing the way for full operations by the end of December.
