As the Chaitra Navratra festivities commenced, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board introduced a host of upgraded amenities and new services to enrich the spiritual journey of the devotees visiting the renowned shrine. Guided by the directions of Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, the Board has focused on providing pilgrims with improved comfort, convenience, and access to inclusive facilities. Anshul Garg, the Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board, emphasized the Board's commitment to enhancing the pilgrimage experience. He highlighted the introduction of smart lockers, free public calling booths, and special arrangements for 'divyang' (differently-abled) devotees, including priority slots for Garbjoon Arti at Ardhkuwari and Atka Arti at Bhawan, during the sacred Navratras.

The Vaishno Devi Shrine and the city of Jammu, decorated in festive splendor, welcomed hundreds of pilgrims on the auspicious start of Navratra. Devotees thronged the mountain cave shrine of Vaishnodevi and the surrounding temples dedicated to the deity, which were adorned to mark the occasion. The commencement of the Chaitra Navratra at the shrine was marked by a sacred Shatchandi Yagya, aimed at invoking peace, prosperity, and well-being for humanity. The ceremonies, rich in Vedic hymns and rituals, set the tone for the nine-day-long religious observance.
To accommodate the needs of the pilgrims, the Shrine Board has made significant enhancements to the facilities at various points along the pilgrimage route. Noteworthy among these are the establishment of resting and holding areas at Banganga and Adhkuwari, designed to shelter 2,000 pilgrims at a time, providing them with a serene space to rest and rejuvenate. The Inderprasth Bhojanalaya at Ardhkuwari has been expanded, now catering to 200 devotees, and the Langar (community kitchen) service has been extended to Shubhra Bhawan at Banganga. These improvements ensure that devotees observing fasts have access to appropriate food options throughout their spiritual journey.
The Shrine Board has also introduced about 200 Smart lockers near the Skywalk area, offering a secure place for pilgrims to store their belongings. These lockers, accessible via RFID Cards, add a layer of convenience and security. In addition, to aid in seamless communication, free PCO facilities, powered by Bharti Airtel, have been set up along the pilgrimage track. This service is particularly beneficial for devotees carrying prepaid SIMs, allowing them to maintain contact with their families.
For 'divyang' pilgrims, the board has provided dedicated quotas for helicopter bookings and complimentary battery car services. These initiatives demonstrate the Shrine Board's commitment to making the pilgrimage accessible and comfortable for all devotees. The arrangements for resting cum holding areas at Banganga and Ardhkuwari, with a capacity to accommodate thousands, offer pilgrims a chance to pause and refresh, ensuring their journey is as comfortable as possible, irrespective of weather conditions.
In transforming the Bhawan, Atka, and surrounding areas into a radiant spiritual oasis, the Shrine Board has spared no effort in creating an inviting and mesmerizing ambiance for devotees. The decoration features a beautiful amalgamation of local and exotic flora, elegant entrance gates, and a lit facade that bathes the area in colorful lights, creating a captivating environment for the pilgrims. Additional arrangements include continuous water and power supply along the tracks, sanitation facilities, and medical care to ensure a seamless and comfortable pilgrimage experience. Furthermore, battery-operated vehicles, passenger ropeway, and helicopter services are available to facilitate a hassle-free journey for the devotees.
Enhancing the spiritual atmosphere, the Shrine Board has arranged for 'Bhajan and Bhaint' performances by renowned artists during the morning and evening Atka arti sessions. These performances are set to deepen the devotional experience for the pilgrims, fostering a sense of spirituality and reverence throughout the Navratri celebrations.
