The Pune police have extended the restrictions imposed under Section 144 in the city until March 31. The decision comes after careful consideration and discussions with all stakeholders, following a meeting held on February 28. Section 144 had initially been enforced until March 4, but a revised order was issued on Monday, incorporating suggestions and objections from various stakeholders.

Ensuring Safety and Peace: Pune Police's Guidelines
During the meeting, Pune Police laid out 26 guidelines aimed at creating a safe and secure environment, fostering peace across the city. Some key restrictions highlighted in the guidelines include:
1. Closing Time for Bars and Permit Rooms:
- All bars and permit rooms must strictly adhere to the closing time limit of 1:30 AM.
2. Indoor Music Performances:
- Limits for indoor music performances are set until 1:30 AM.
3. Outdoor Music Performances:
- Limits for outdoor music performances are set until 10:00 PM.
4. Orders for Food and Liquor:
- No orders for food and liquor are to be accepted after 1:15 AM.
5. Grace Time for Vacating Establishments:
- A grace period of 30 minutes shall be permitted to vacate establishments after the designated closing time.

Pune Police emphasized that these guidelines have been formulated by incorporating the suggestions of stakeholders. It is now imperative for all stakeholders to adhere to these guidelines to ensure a harmonious and secure environment in the city.
Reacting to the extension of Section 144, Ganesh Shetty, the president of the Pune Restaurants and Hoteliers Association (PRAHA), expressed concerns over certain operational aspects. He stated, "We have informed the police that some officials are pressuring restaurant owners to close by 11:30 PM. We request at least the allowance to run our businesses until 1:30 AM."
Shetty further added that they have urged the police not to intervene in cases related to liquor, as per the government guidelines, which designate the state excise department to handle such matters. The association aims to find a balanced approach that considers both safety measures and the business interests of establishments.
As the city navigates through these extended restrictions, the collaboration between law enforcement and business stakeholders becomes crucial for maintaining a thriving and secure environment. The guidelines put forth by Pune Police aim to strike a balance between public safety and the economic activities of local establishments.
