The Sangam Nose, with its newly expanded ghats due to the hard work of the Irrigation Department's Mechanical branch, has become the most sought-after location for devotees taking part in the Maha Kumbh's holy dips. The area, which now allows over 200,000 people to bathe every hour, has seen an impressive increase in capacity from the 50,000 per hour recorded in 2019. This threefold rise in capacity is attributed to the area's expansion by 26 hectares, facilitated by the addition of sandbags over a 1,650-metre stretch.

Significant efforts went into enhancing the Sangam Nose's accessibility and capacity, making it possible for a larger number of devotees to participate simultaneously in the spiritual ritual. A noteworthy task completed by the team involved using four large dredging machines to efficiently carry out the work within a tight 85-day schedule, across three shifts. This meticulous approach not only allowed for the successful expansion of the site but also ensured that millions of devotees could access the sacred space more easily.
The commingling of saints and spiritual figures with devotees at the Sangam Nose underscores the seamless integration achieved through the diligent efforts of the Varanasi officials. This harmony facilitated a shared spiritual journey during the Amrit Snan, a pivotal moment in the Maha Kumbh. The dedicated space at Sangam Nose, increased by two hectares specifically for this purpose, underscores the meticulous planning that went into accommodating the spiritual practices of diverse groups.
The first days of the festival, January 13 and 14, saw an extraordinary turnout with more than three million devotees participating in the holy dip, a testament to the site's importance and the effective organization of the event. The Sangam Nose, preferred by most for the Amrit Snan, witnessed crowds gathering from the night before, indicating the devotion and eagerness of participants. At peak times, it was estimated that up to 300,000 people bathed at the Sangam Nose every hour.
In conclusion, the successful expansion and organization at the Sangam Nose for the Maha Kumbh have significantly improved the experience for devotees. With the capacity for more than two lakh individuals to participate in the holy dip every hour, the site has solidified its status as the premier location for this sacred event. The efforts of the Varanasi Irrigation Department's Mechanical branch have enabled a harmonious space where saints, spiritual leaders, and millions of devotees could partake in the Amrit Snan, marking a historic moment in the festival's observance.
