Severe rainfall in 2025 is wreaking havoc nationwide, and Delhi, sitting on the mighty banks of the Yamuna, bears the brunt. Climatic changes, poorly functioning high-end infrastructures, and a population explosion in Delhi trigger extreme rainfall and waterlogging, threatening human lives in the recent times. Residents are struggling to meet their

daily needs.
Light Rainfall to Occur in Delhi on 6th September
Today Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has made predictions that there might be light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, and the temperature will remain between 23 to 35 degrees Celsius. Even though water levels are subsiding from the residential areas, there are some areas still submerged in water, and the city is experiencing its aftereffects, like no drinking water, power cuts, etc. Yamuna's water level continues to increase, indicating that it might exceed the warning mark of 204.5 metres for Delhi, leaving a scar among the residents. People need to evacuate if it exceeds the danger mark, which is 205.33 metres for the city.
Major Affected Areas of Delhi and Neighboring Areas
On Saturday morning, a few areas like Mayur Vihar and Shree Swaminarayan Mandir in Civil Lines are still witnessing floods. The regional weather department has forecasted chances of light rain in Delhi's Narela, Alipur, Jafarpur, and Haryana's Loharu & Mahendargarh in the morning. An NDRF team was stationed in the Kalindi Kunj area after being flooded due to the heavy rainfall over the past few days. Civil Lines, Monastery Market, and Vasudev Ghat are also affected. There has been no additional weather alert in the entire day apart from the IMD's forecast of light rain. No weather alert has been issued in the neighboring areas of Delhi NCR, like Gurugram, Faridabad, and Noida, despite the orange alert in Haryana's Mahendragarh and Rewari.
Impacts of Severe Rainfall in Delhi
While Yamuna's water level has been increasing for the last four days, residents are facing adverse situations, and the shutdown of Delhi's primary water treatment plant at Wazirabad for 36 hours has disturbed the water flow across the city. The officials have stated that the drains cannot be emptied, as it will cause backflow to the lowlands. Due to the severity of the condition and heavy traffic congestion, the Delhi Traffic Police issued a travel advisory on 5th September for areas like Bhagwan Mahaveer Marg, KN Kantju Marg, and Outer Ring Road.
