Several parts of India are expected to receive heavy rainfall on Monday, August 31, as the southwest monsoon remains active. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in eastern, central, northeastern and Himalayan regions. Odisha, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and parts of Northeast India are among the areas being closely monitored.

Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely in some regions. Heavy rain may lead to waterlogging, flooding, landslides and problems with road connectivity. Because of these risks, students and parents are checking whether schools will remain closed on August 31.
Will Schools be Closed on 31 August?
However, there is no nationwide school holiday due to rain. School closures will depend on decisions taken by state governments, district administrations or individual schools.
In Delhi NCR, no blanket holiday has been announced for August 31. Although Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram have experienced rain and waterlogging recently, the latest IMD forecast does not indicate heavy to very heavy rainfall over the region.
Odisha is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places. However, no statewide school closure has been confirmed. District administrations may announce holidays if flooding, waterlogging or unsafe roads create problems.
Uttarakhand is also under a close weather watch, with very heavy rainfall possible in isolated areas. No statewide holiday has been announced, but district authorities may take local decisions depending on conditions.
Similarly, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, but no statewide school closure has been confirmed.
West Bengal and Bihar are also likely to receive rainfall, while parts of Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Northeast India may face rain-related disruptions. No statewide closure has been announced in these regions either.

Students and parents are advised to check official school messages and district administration notices before leaving for school. Local authorities can announce closures if weather conditions become unsafe.
