Rain Alert in Bengaluru: IMD Issued a Yellow Alert for Bengaluru on 21 May, Rainfall is Likely

Even though Bengaluru has been receiving regular rainfall, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the city and nearby areas for May 21. The city is likely to experience strong thunderstorms, gusty winds, and repeated spells of heavy rain.

Rain Alert in Bengaluru

Officials are closely monitoring the storm movement. The weather warning may also affect popular hill stations around Bengaluru. Winds may reach up to 40 kmph, which could cause trees to fall in some places. Frequent lightning is also expected, making it risky for people to stay outdoors during bad weather.

Karnataka Rain Alert

According to the IMD, many parts of Karnataka may continue to receive heavy rain and thunderstorms from May 22 onwards. Both North and South Interior Karnataka are likely to witness rain, along with lightning and strong winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph, in several districts.

Orange Alert Issued in Several Districts of Karnataka

An orange alert has been issued for Kodagu, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Mysore, and Chamarajanagar districts. These places may experience heavy rainfall and even hailstorms on Thursday. A yellow alert has also been announced for Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Tumkur, Ramanagara, and Mandya districts, where moderate to heavy rain is expected.

Districts such as Belgaum, Dharwad, Haveri, and Gadag may also receive heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning. At the same time, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, and Raichur districts are expected to see hot and dry weather, with temperatures ranging between 39°C and 42°C. However, light pre-monsoon showers or cool evening breezes may occur in these areas.

In coastal Karnataka, thunderstorms with wind speeds of 30-40 kmph may occur at a few places between May 22 and May 24. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period.
