With Diwali and Chhath Puja around the corner, the Western Railway (WR) has made a significant move to manage the high volume of travelers at six major stations in Gujarat. To reduce crowding and make passenger movement easier, WR has stopped the sale of platform tickets at Ahmedabad (Kalupur), Sabarmati, Asarwa, Vadodara, Bharuch, and Chhayapuri stations. This temporary change aims to keep platforms clear, especially as migrant workers board trains like the Jansadharan Express to head home for the festivals.

Temporary Restriction to Manage Heavy Crowds
The rush of passengers traveling home for Diwali and Chhath Puja has led WR to restrict platform access to only those with valid tickets from October 27 to November 6. This measure is expected to help streamline movement within stations, keep platforms less crowded, and ensure safer journeys during this busy season.
A member of the WR Regional Rail Users Consultative Committee has highlighted the immense pressure on rail services during the festive season. In letters sent to the WR general manager, they requested extra trains to help handle the demand. The need for additional services underscores how crucial these restrictions are to provide a safe and manageable experience for travelers.
Special Exemptions for Senior Citizens and Medical Cases
In a thoughtful move, WR has allowed exemptions for senior citizens and passengers with medical needs. This ensures that those who may need extra support or access will not be restricted by the platform ticket rules. Additionally, while Ahmedabad division stations will only have these rules in place until November 6, the restriction on platform tickets in Vadodara, Bharuch, and Chhayapuri will last until November 10 to help maintain a controlled environment across more locations.
