Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently took to the microblogging platform X to reveal an animated video showcasing the progress of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad train corridor, famously dubbed the 'Bullet train.' The project, which commenced in November 2021, has been steadily advancing.

According to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the initial segment of the bullet train, spanning a 50km stretch between Bilimora and Surat in Gujarat, is expected to be completed by August 2026. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project will cover a distance of 508 km, reaching a maximum speed of 320 km per hour, significantly reducing travel time to just 2 hours.
Indian Railways envisions operating 35 bullet trains, with an estimated 70 trips per day, with plans to increase this to 105 trains by 2050. This ambitious endeavor aims to serve approximately 1.6 crore passengers annually.
The estimated cost of the project stands at approximately Rs 1.08 lakh crore, with the Centre contributing Rs 10,000 crore and Gujarat and Maharashtra each contributing Rs 5,000 crore. The project also promises 12 state-of-the-art railway stations, envisioned as marvels of world-class engineering.
Innovative features like a slab track system and an early earthquake detection system will be integrated into the corridor. Moreover, the route will include 24 river bridges, 28 steel bridges, and 7 mountain tunnels, featuring a 7-kilometer-long undersea tunnel.
Readers can look forward to witnessing the transformation of rail travel in India as the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project gains momentum, promising faster, safer, and more efficient transportation for millions across the country.
