Bengaluru Purple Line Disruption as Man Jumps Tracks at Kengeri Station Halts Services Up to Mysuru Road

the metro every day.

When Did the Incident Take Place?

As reported by Deccan Herald, the incident took place around 8:15 AM. The man, identified as Shantagoud Police Patil from Devara Hipparagi in Vijayapura district, jumped onto the tracks just before a train arrived. Metro security quickly cut the electricity supply to the third rail to avoid further danger, but the man became trapped between the train and the track.

BMRCL's Official Statement

BMRCL later issued an official statement on X (formerly Twitter) informing passengers that Purple Line trains would run only up to Mysuru Road. Services between Mysuru Road and Challaghatta were temporarily suspended due to a suicide attempt. The Metro authority also apologised for the inconvenience and said services would be restored as soon as possible.

This announcement created panic among office-goers, students, and daily metro users, as the Purple Line is one of the busiest stretches, connecting important residential and commercial areas in West Bengaluru.

Underlying Issues

The suspension led to widespread travel problems across the city. Social media was filled with photos and videos showing huge crowds at stations, long queues outside entry gates, and passengers waiting for nearly an hour to get updates. With metro services unavailable in the affected section, many commuters shifted to BMTC buses, auto-rickshaws, cabs, and private vehicles. This sudden shift put extra pressure on the roads. Traffic police reported heavy jams, slow movement, and bottlenecks around Mysuru Road and nearby areas as thousands of people turned to road transport at the same time, leading to a chaotic Friday morning.
