Odisha Chief Secretary PK Jena announced that the 'Parikrama' or heritage corridor encircling the Jagannath temple in Puri is on track to be completed by January 11. The chief secretary recently conducted a thorough review of the project, revealing plans for its grand inauguration on January 17.

As the project reaches its final stages, Chief Secretary Jena expressed confidence that by January 14, the temple administration would take over the completed work, with the police ensuring the security of the entire area. He shared this information with reporters on Friday, highlighting the meticulous arrangements in place for visitors from across the country and abroad who plan to witness the 'Parikrama' project inauguration.
The district collector has proactively engaged with various mutts and building owners along the Grand Road, seeking their cooperation in facilitating the smooth flow of people attending the event. The chief secretary emphasized that public conveniences, including drinking water and toilets, would be readily available, and security measures would be implemented throughout the town to prevent any untoward incidents.
To accommodate the surge of vehicles on the day of the inauguration, new parking spaces are being designated, ensuring a hassle-free experience for the pilgrims and visitors to the holy town.
To spread awareness and information, the state government has organized 'Prachar Rath' (promotional vehicles) to visit every gram panchayat in the district starting Saturday. This initiative aims to keep the local communities informed and engaged in the monumental event.
ADG (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar assured that robust security measures are being put in place to guarantee the safety of visitors, ensuring a seamless 'darshan' for devotees. The overall goal is to provide a secure and enriching experience for all attendees.

The Puri Heritage Corridor Project: Revitalizing Spiritual and Cultural Essence
The Puri Heritage Corridor is a visionary redevelopment project initiated by the Odisha government to transform the holy town of Puri into an international heritage site. Launched in December 2019, the project encompasses various sub-projects, including the redevelopment of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration building, a 600-capacity Srimandir reception center, Jagannath cultural center, Badadanda heritage streetscape, beachfront development, Puri Lake, and Musa river revival plan.
Funded under the Augmentation of Basic Amenities and Development of Heritage and Architecture (ABADHA) scheme, the project seeks to enhance the security, safety, and religious ambiance of the temple and its surroundings. While the initiative has faced challenges and controversies, including concerns about the use of heavy machinery and obtaining clearances from authorities like the Archaeological Survey of India and the National Monuments Authority, the overall aim remains to preserve the sanctity of the 12th-century temple and its rich heritage.
As the Puri Heritage Corridor nears completion, anticipation builds for the upcoming inauguration, symbolizing a significant step forward in preserving and promoting the cultural and spiritual legacy of this sacred site.
