Pune’s Hinjewadi Set for Big Traffic Relief as MIDC Begins Rs 650 Crore Infrastructure Project

In a major move to reduce traffic in Pune's busy Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has launched a new infrastructure plan. With an investment of Rs 650 crore, the goal is to ease congestion, especially in traffic-heavy areas like Laxmi Chowk. The plan includes building new roads and flyovers, and land acquisition is already in progress.

Pune s Hinjewadi Set for Traffic Relief

A flyover and new road to ease traffic

One of the key parts of this plan is a 720-meter long, four-lane flyover which will cost around Rs 40 crore. Another important project is a 900-meter six-lane road from Shivaji Chowk to Smashanbhoomi, which will cost Rs 24.74 crore. The biggest share of the budget, Rs 584.14 crore, will go into building a new road that connects Phase I and Phase III of the IT Park.

Earlier, the Public Department was handling land acquisition, but now the MIDC has taken over this job after a decision by District Collector Jitendra Dudi. This will help speed up the project and make sure things move smoothly.

Why traffic is a big problem in Hinjewadi

Hinjewadi, where the Infotech Park is located, has long struggled with traffic problems. The area has grown fast, and thousands of private vehicles travel through it daily. But the public transport service by PMPML has only about 200 buses. This small number of buses is not enough, especially during peak hours, making the traffic problem even worse. There is also a need for proper metro services in the area.

Voices from the it sector

IT professionals and industry representatives have welcomed this new project. Pawanjit Mane, President of the Forum for IT Employees, said that the Industries Minister should visit Hinjewadi to understand the serious traffic issues. He also mentioned that metro rail alone will not solve the problem and that more roads and flyovers are necessary. This shows the need for a bigger and better plan to solve the area's transport problems.

The construction work for the project will begin once the District Collector gives final approval. MIDC's Regional Officer Archana Pathare confirmed that work will start as per the Collector's instructions.

The MIDC's Rs 650 crore plan is a big step toward solving the traffic problems in Pune's Hinjewadi area. The new roads and flyovers are expected to improve daily travel for thousands of IT professionals and residents. This development will also improve the overall infrastructure of one of Pune's most important business hubs.
