Patna Metro has expanded its operational network with the opening of a new stretch between New ISBT and Malahipakri, marking another important step in improving public transport in Bihar's capital. The newly opened section was inaugurated on July 2 and is expected to provide faster and more convenient travel for thousands of daily commuters.

Patna Metro's New Corridor
The extension increases the length of the operational metro corridor from 3.6 km to 4.3 km. With this expansion, commuters can now travel through five stations: New ISBT, Zero Mile, Bhootnath, Malahipakri, and Khemnichak. The addition of the two new stations improves connectivity in eastern Patna and brings metro services closer to densely populated residential and commercial areas.
The new corridor is part of the Blue Line, which will eventually connect Patna Junction with New ISBT. Once fully completed, the Blue Line will be 16.2 km long with 12 stations, including both elevated and underground sections. The underground portion between Patna Junction and Rajendra Nagar is currently under construction.
Patna Metro trains currently operate every 20 minutes from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Ticket fares range from ₹15 for short-distance travel to ₹30 for the full journey. Each three-coach train has a seating capacity of 147 passengers and can accommodate up to 945 passengers, including standing commuters. The trains are equipped with CCTV cameras, charging points, emergency communication systems, and interiors inspired by Madhubani art, offering passengers a safe and comfortable travel experience.
How will this New Corridor Improve Connectivity?
The expansion is expected to reduce road congestion, shorten travel time, and improve connectivity with the city's bus network. Officials believe the metro will encourage more people to use public transport while supporting Patna's growing infrastructure and urban development. More extensions are planned in the coming years as work continues on the remaining sections of the Patna Metro project.
