Patna Gears Up for Metro Travel with 5 New Stations and High-Tech Depot by August 2025

Bihar: Patna's first metro corridor, called the blue line, is getting ready to run by August 15, 2025. This new service will help people travel faster and more comfortably across the city. The blue line is part of Corridor II and is being built as an elevated track. It will cover 6.49 km and have five stations, connecting Patna Junction to ISBT. Officials say that 90% of the work is already complete.

Patna Gears Up for Metro Travel

A Step Toward Modern Travel

Jibesh Kumar, the state's urban development and housing minister, said that the government is fully committed to providing a modern, quick, and eco-friendly public transport system. The metro will be a major step toward easing traffic and making travel easier in Patna.

Well-Planned Metro Stations

Each station on this line will have two levels - the concourse and the platform. The concourse will include useful facilities like ticket counters, waiting areas, information kiosks, food courts, retail shops, and public announcement systems. There will also be lifts and escalators to help people move easily.

Khemnichak station is going to be very important because it will be the main point where Corridor I (Danapur-Khemnichak) and Corridor II connect. This station will have three levels and two platforms to make changing trains easy for passengers.

Special Depot at Baririya Chak

A large metro depot is being built at Baririya Chak. It will have two workshop bays, three inspection bays, a testing track, and space to keep 32 three-coach trains. There will also be an auto-coach washing unit, an auditorium, a training school, a canteen, and an operation control centre. A 2,500 KVA substation will provide power to the depot. Civil work at the ISBT depot, which covers 76 acres, is already complete, with only finishing work left.

Project Costs and Funding

The total cost of the Patna Metro project is Rs 13,925 crore. Of this, the state and central governments will each pay 20% (excluding land costs), while the remaining 60% will come as a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Work is being done quickly to meet the launch deadline. U-girders have been placed at Khemnichak. Platform casting has started at ISBT. Purlin installation is going on at Bhoothnath. Electrical works and track installation are also moving ahead.

Once complete, the Patna Metro will offer a new and exciting way to travel around the city with more comfort and speed.
