DHR Suspended

The charming town of Darjeeling, located in West Bengal, India, at the base of the Himalayas, is well-known for its tea gardens, breathtaking scenery, and the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, also known as the Toy Train. However, the Toy Train services have been temporarily halted until August 31, 2023, due to the recent high rainfall in the area.

The monsoon season, which normally lasts from June to September, brings a substantial amount of rain to Darjeeling and the places around it. The decision to halt services until the end of August 2023 was made by the authorities as a preventative step to guarantee passenger safety.

DHR Suspended

Sabyasachi De, the Northeast Frontier Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer announced that the 3 steam joy rides and 1 diesel joy ride are temporarily not operating starting from 20th July to 31st August 2023. He also expressed that Darjeeling Himalayan Railway offers the best toy train rides in India offering mesmerizing views being in the foothills of the Himalayas and hence its surely the most visited place by tourists.

About The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway:

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a 2 feet gauge railway line with an 88 km track length from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling via Siliguri town, Siliguri Junction, Sukna, Rangtong, Tindharia, Gayabari, Mahanadi, Kurseong, Tung, Sonada and Ghum, is the country's first hill passenger railway. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway also referred to as the "Toy Train," was established in 1881 and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.

One of the Indian Railways' most picturesque routes and a top tourist destination, the line has been designated as a Heritage Line. It is one of India's most picturesque trains and makes you feel as though you are in another fantasy land.
