The Namma BMTC mobile app in Bengaluru has received a major upgrade. Now, commuters can track over 5,200 buses in real time. This includes an addition of 1,200 electric buses, making bus travel more efficient and convenient. The app also helps users find nearby bus stations, plan routes, and estimate fares. The earlier version allowed tracking of only 3,000 buses, but this new update brings better accessibility to thousands of passengers.

More Features for a Better Travel Experience
A senior BMTC official said, "The previous version helped commuters track 3,000 buses in real time. Now, more buses, including 1,200 electric buses, are integrated into the system." Apart from real-time tracking, the app has many other features like bus pass purchases, emergency SOS alerts, and a complete journey planner. These features were introduced about a year and a half ago to improve the bus travel experience.
However, the app has received some complaints about inaccurate information. Some users have found issues with tracking, making it difficult to rely on the app. Despite this, the app has over 10 lakh downloads, showing that it remains a popular tool among Bengaluru's commuters.
KSRTC to Introduce a New Vehicle Tracking System
While BMTC is upgrading its app, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is working on a Vehicle Location Tracking System (VLTS). This system will be installed in 7,207 buses to monitor whether buses run on schedule, follow correct routes, and stop at designated places.
KSRTC Managing Director Anbu Kumar highlighted the importance of this system. He said, "VLTS will help us track whether services are running as per schedule, whether drivers are speeding, deviating from scheduled routes, and stopping at designated places. This will also help us reach out to passengers during any emergency."
The project has received central funding from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The tracking devices will also include panic buttons to improve passenger safety.
Better Public Transport for Bengaluru and Beyond
With BMTC improving its app and KSRTC launching a new vehicle tracking system, public transport in Bengaluru and Karnataka is becoming more modern and efficient. These steps aim to enhance passenger convenience, safety, and reliability. By using technology and digital innovations, the city is moving towards a smarter and smoother public transport system.
