Noida Expressway to Be Safer Soon with New Markings, Signs, and Reflectors

The Noida Authority has decided to spend Rs 8 crore to improve safety features on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. This expressway is a busy road used by thousands of people every day. It connects Delhi with Greater Noida and goes further to the Yamuna Expressway. It is also expected to become an important link to the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar.

Noida Starts Expressway Upgrade

The authority plans to install solar-powered road markers, speed limit signs, rumble strips, thermoplastic paint for road markings, and other traffic signs. These changes will be made along the 24-km-long expressway, starting near Sector-14A. The first 20 km of the expressway is managed by the Noida Authority, and the last 4 km is under the Greater Noida Authority.

Addressing Safety Concerns Through Infrastructure Improvements

The need for better safety became clear after a tragic accident on August 14, 2024. Three students died after their vehicle hit a pole and a crash barrier. This accident showed the urgent need for safer roads. A recent check by the authority found that many important safety features like reflectors, lane markings, and signboards were missing or damaged. There were also not enough bollards, which help guide traffic and keep pedestrians safe.

To study the road conditions, the Noida Authority called in experts from the Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies (RCUES). Their report confirmed that many road signs and markings were missing. They also pointed out that there were no kilometer markers, which makes it harder for drivers and emergency teams to find their way.

Enhancing Commuter Experience and Road Safety

Besides safety, the upgrades will also help traffic move more smoothly. Even though the expressway has 13-foot overbridges and around 19-20 public toilets, these are not clearly marked. This causes confusion for commuters. The new signs and markings will help people use these facilities easily.

Vijay Rawal, general manager of the Noida Authority, said, "The Noida-Greater Noida Expressway is a key road that connects Delhi with Greater Noida and leads to the Yamuna Expressway. Thousands of commuters use this daily. It will be a key link to the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar. That makes it even more important to improve its safety features quickly."

This Rs 8 crore project is a big step towards making the expressway safer and easier to use. With better signs, road markings, and safety tools, the daily commute will become safer for everyone.
