Noida and Greater Noida to Get 400 New Electric Buses for Improved Connectivity

In a significant move to improve last-mile connectivity in Gautam Budh Nagar, the Uttar Pradesh government has directed three key authorities-Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida)-to procure at least 400 electric buses. This decision aims to enhance the city's bus service and address local commuting challenges.

Noida to Get 400 New Electric Buses

New Bus Service to Launch Soon

The new city bus service is expected to start within the next three months, following the completion of tender-related formalities. Officials have confirmed that the service will cover all key areas, including commercial zones, government offices, economic zones, industrial areas, Noida airport, Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, Yamuna Expressway, Electronic City in Sector 62, and the Delhi borders.

History of Mobility Planning

Back in 2022, the Noida authority began the process of hiring a consultant to prepare a comprehensive mobility plan for Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway. This initiative followed a directive from the UP government on May 5, 2022, instructing the Noida authority to develop a regional geographic economic plan. The plan was to address various issues, including finance, urban mobility, and infrastructure.

Delays in Consultant Hiring

Despite the initial steps, the consultant has not yet been hired due to incomplete formalities related to the project. Officials have now emphasized the urgency of addressing local commuting problems by implementing the city bus service as soon as possible. The directive to procure the electric buses came during a meeting chaired by Uttar Pradesh additional chief secretary Manoj Kumar Singh, who is also the state's industrial and infrastructure development commissioner.

Comprehensive Mobility Plan Discussions

During the meeting, detailed discussions took place on the comprehensive mobility plan for the three urban areas. Currently, these areas lack a city bus service, causing significant inconvenience to commuters. The new mobility plan aims to provide reliable bus connectivity within and between Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway, including the upcoming Noida airport at Jewar.

Official Statements

"We had deliberations with the three industrial bodies and decided that there is a need to run a city bus service that offers reliable service to passengers who travel within Noida and Greater Noida. We have directed the three authorities to complete all formalities," said Manoj Kumar Singh.

Improving Urban Mobility

The introduction of 400 electric buses is expected to significantly enhance urban mobility in the region. These buses will provide an eco-friendly, efficient, and reliable mode of transportation, helping to reduce traffic congestion and pollution. The electric buses are part of a broader effort to modernize public transport and improve the quality of life for residents in Noida, Greater Noida, and along the Yamuna Expressway.

Focus on Sustainability

The decision to opt for electric buses aligns with global trends towards sustainable urban transport solutions. Electric buses are not only environmentally friendly but also offer a quieter and smoother ride compared to traditional diesel buses. This initiative underscores the Uttar Pradesh government's commitment to sustainable development and environmental conservation.

Economic and Social Benefits

The new bus service is expected to bring several economic and social benefits. Improved connectivity will make it easier for people to commute to work, access educational institutions, and reach healthcare facilities. This, in turn, can boost productivity and contribute to the overall economic development of the region. Additionally, a reliable public transport system can reduce the reliance on private vehicles, leading to lower emissions and a cleaner environment.

Future Prospects

As the state government and local authorities work towards implementing the new bus service, residents of Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway can look forward to a more connected and convenient transportation system. The successful rollout of this initiative could serve as a model for other cities in India, showcasing how sustainable urban transport solutions can transform urban living.

The directive to procure 400 electric buses marks a significant step towards improving last-mile connectivity in Gautam Budh Nagar. With the launch of the new city bus service, residents can expect better access to key areas and a more reliable public transport system. The Uttar Pradesh government's focus on sustainability and urban mobility is set to bring positive changes to the region, enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
