Indian Railways passengers should be aware that an increase in train ticket fares is expected, as the Railway Ministry has officially announced a revised fare structure that will come into effect from Friday, December 26, 2025. According to the notification, ticket prices will rise by 1 paise per kilometre for

ordinary classes on journeys beyond 215 km, and by 2 paise per kilometre for non-AC classes of Mail/Express trains and all AC classes.
What Are the Changes to be Expected?
Under the new system, fares have been adjusted in a gradual and balanced manner across Second Class Ordinary, Sleeper Class Ordinary, and First Class Ordinary categories to limit the impact on passengers.
No Fare Hike for Second Class Ordinary Journey
As per the updated rules, there will be no fare hike for Second Class Ordinary journeys up to 215 km, ensuring that short-distance passengers and daily commuters are not affected. For journeys between 216 km and 750 km, fares will increase by ₹5. For longer distances, the hike will be applied in stages, ₹10 for trips between 751 km and 1250 km, ₹15 for 1251 km to 1750 km, and ₹20 for 1751 km to 2250 km, ANI reported.
In Sleeper Class Ordinary and First Class Ordinary, fares have been revised uniformly at 1 paise per kilometre for non-suburban journeys. This ensures that the increase remains minimal and affordable for long-distance passengers.
Fare Hike for Mail & Express Trains
For Mail and Express trains, ticket prices will go up by 2 paise per kilometre for both Non-AC and AC classes. This applies to Sleeper Class, First Class, AC Chair Car, AC 3-Tier, AC 2-Tier, and AC First Class.
Revision of Fares for Premium & Semi-Trains
Moreover, the basic fares of popular premium and semi-premium trains such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Gatimaan, Garib Rath, Jan Shatabdi, Antyodaya, Yuva Express, Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, and other non-suburban ordinary services have also been revised according to the approved class-wise fare changes.
