Udhampur Railway Station Honors Pulwama Attack Hero with New Name
The Udhampur railway station, situated in the heart of Jammu and Kashmir, has been renamed as the "Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Railway Station" in honor of a valiant soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice during a terrorist attack in Pulwama in 2016.

The renaming of the station was officially announced by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on September 7, 2023, coinciding with the celebration of Janmashtami. This tribute was made possible through the approval of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and a formal request has been sent to the UT government of Jammu and Kashmir for the necessary gazette notification.
A Heroic Sacrifice in the Face of Terror
Captain Tushar Mahajan, a dedicated officer of the Indian Army's 9 PARA (Special Forces) unit, displayed unwavering courage and selflessness when faced with a terrorist attack on the JKEDI Building in Pulwama district back in February 2016.
During this harrowing incident, he successfully neutralized a terrorist while safeguarding the lives of his fellow Army personnel. Tragically, Captain Mahajan lost his life in the line of duty but not before leaving an indelible mark of bravery. His posthumous recognition came in the form of the Shaurya Chakra, a testament to his valor.
