Bengaluru Metro Unveils Fifth Train on Yellow Line to Enhance Commuter Experience on November 1

On November 1, marking the 70th Karnataka Rajyotsava, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will introduce its fifth train on the Yellow Line of Namma Metro. This move aims to reduce overcrowding and make travel smoother for daily commuters.

Bengaluru Metro's Yellow Line

The Yellow Line, which covers 19 km between R.V. Road and Bommasandra, has faced long waiting times since its launch due to a limited number of trains. With the addition of this fifth train, the frequency during peak hours will improve from 19 minutes to 15 minutes, giving passengers quicker and more convenient service. However, BMRCL clarified that the first and last train timings will remain the same, and only the interval between trains will be reduced.

The Yellow Line, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 10 and opened to the public the following day, connects major southern parts of the city, including Electronics City, to the wider metro network. Initially, there were only three trains, leading to waiting times of over 25 minutes and crowded platforms. A fourth train, added on September 10, brought slight relief, cutting wait times to 19 minutes.

Arrival of New Trainset on 30th September

The new trainset arrived at the depot on September 30 after being shipped from Titagarh Rail Systems Limited in Kolkata on September 19. Once in Bengaluru, it underwent 20 days of testing before being cleared for service.

Bengaluru Metro's New Technology

According to BMRCL officials, the fifth train will further ease congestion, but more trains will be needed to reach the ideal frequency. Each metro on this line is equipped with Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology, which supports driverless operation. Although the CBTC system can reduce train gaps to 90 seconds, services are still being manually operated by trained pilots for now.
