New Bengaluru-Mumbai Express Train: Ashwini Vaishnaw Virtually Flagged Off a Service on Sunday

Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually flagged off a new express train service between Bengaluru and Mumbai on Sunday, which is expected to improve railway connectivity between Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Train to be Launched Soon

Speaking during the launch event, the Railway Minister said the long-standing demand of people from South and North Karnataka for better train connectivity is now being fulfilled. He also announced that the new Vande Bharat Sleeper train service between Bengaluru and Mumbai is likely to start soon.

Infrastructure Development

Mr Vaishnaw highlighted the rapid growth of railway infrastructure in Karnataka. He said the state currently operates 12 pairs of Vande Bharat Express trains. He also revealed that bullet train corridors connecting Bengaluru with Hyderabad and Chennai have received approval. According to the minister, the railway network connecting Mumbai, Bengaluru, and other major cities is planned to expand to nearly 7,000 kilometres in the future. He also said work on all four corridors of the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project is currently progressing.

Maintenance Depot for Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains

V. Somanna, who was also present at the event, announced that a maintenance depot for Vande Bharat Sleeper trains will be built at Thanisandra at a cost of ₹270 crore. In addition, a chair car maintenance facility will be developed at SMVT Bengaluru railway station at a cost of more than ₹52 crore.

The Railway Ministry also stated that under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, around 61 railway stations in Karnataka are being redeveloped at a cost of more than ₹2,000 crore. Work has already been completed at nine stations. The ministry added that over 1,700 kilometres of new railway lines have been laid in Karnataka since 2014.
