A new expressway between Bengaluru and Vijayawada is set to change the way people travel between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The 518 km long expressway will allow fast travel, reduce journey time, and help the economy grow. It is being built under Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase II and promises better roads and faster transport across South India.

Expressway to boost speed and save time
The Bengaluru-Vijayawada Expressway will have four to six lanes and will be partially access-controlled, allowing vehicles to travel up to 120 km per hour. Once complete, the expressway will help people travel between Bengaluru and Vijayawada much faster than before. The improved speed will make travel easier and also help goods move quickly between the two cities.
New roads and improved old routes
This expressway will include both greenfield and brownfield sections. About 64% of the road will be completely new, stretching from Kodikonda to Addanki. The remaining 36% will improve existing roads. The route will pass near Kadapa, which is why the project is also called the BKV Expressway - Bengaluru-Kadapa-Vijayawada Expressway. This new connection is expected to be an important addition to South India's road network.
Project details and progress
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is leading this big project. All the civil contracts were given out by March 2023, and work has already started. The total cost of the expressway is estimated at ₹19,320 crore. Of the total 518 km, about 332 km will be newly constructed. The road is designed with a 100-meter right of way, which will help in smoother and wider road construction.
Although the final date for the completion of the expressway has not been announced yet, the work is moving ahead. Once finished, this expressway will become an important part of India's national highway system. It will make travel easier, save time, and improve the movement of transport and goods between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Better roads, better future
This new expressway is not just about travel-it is about development. It will connect cities better, make transport faster, and support local businesses by improving road access. The Bengaluru-Vijayawada Expressway will help people and goods move smoothly, bringing growth to the region.
This expressway project shows how well-planned roads can make a big difference in people's daily lives and the country's economy.
