Bengaluru Unveils Ambitious 37.121 km Double-Decker Metro Project to Transform Local Traffic by 2030

Bengaluru is planning its longest double-decker structure as part of Namma Metro's Phase 3, which will include entry and exit ramps at five points and loop ramps at nine places to help manage local traffic. According to officials, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will construct a 37.121 km

double-deck viaduct across both corridors of the 44.65 km Phase 3 project.

Connections of Corridor 1 & Corridor

The first corridor runs from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura along the western part of Outer Ring Road. It includes a 28.486-km double-decker stretch from Delmia Circle to Hebbal, making it the longest flyover in Bengaluru. The double-decker will start at Delmia Circle, where the existing flyover will be removed. A 631-metre ramp will be built here for entry and exit. The structure will end at Hebbal, where the flyover will branch toward the airport, while the metro line will continue to Kempapura.

The second corridor runs from Hosahalli to Kadabagere along Magadi Road and includes an 8.635-km double-decker from KHB Colony to Kadabagere. Ramps are planned at KHB Colony, Sunkadakatte, and Kadabagere. At Sunkadakatte, ramps on both sides of the depot will keep the viaduct height low and help the depot entry ramp fit into the available space.

Loops and Existing Flyovers

Corridor 1 will have around 5.565 km of loops at seven points, including Sarakki Junction, NICE Road, Mysuru Road, Vinayaka Layout, Sumanahalli, Goraguntepalya, and Hebbal. Corridor 2 will have 3.19 km of loops at NICE Road and Sumanahalli. Except at Delmia Circle, the double-decker will run beside or above the current flyovers.

The project, costing Rs 9,692.33 crore, will be funded entirely by Karnataka. It is considered financially viable with an FIRR of 16.5%. Work is expected to finish by 2030, and Phase 3 will have six interchange stations.
