Namma Metro Yellow Line: New Timings Announced – Commuters Shocked by the Catch

Bengaluru's highly anticipated Yellow Line of the Namma Metro is set to begin operations on August 11, marking a major step forward in the city's public transport infrastructure.

Namma Metro Yellow Line New Timings Announced Commuters Shocked by the Catch

The corridor will be officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 10, just ahead of its public opening. With this launch, the total metro network in Bengaluru will expand to 96.1 km, including 53.8 km developed under Phase 2 of the metro project.

Initially, the Yellow Line will have trains running at 25-minute intervals due to a limited number of available trainsets. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced that metro services on the new line will operate between 5:00 AM and 11:00 PM, aligning with the standard schedule followed across the rest of the network. Despite the initial deployment of just three driverless trains, all 16 stations on the Yellow Line will be fully operational from the very first day.

Construction and Financial Outlook for the Yellow Line

The construction of Bengaluru's Yellow Line began in 2017 and was executed in three distinct phases, with a total expenditure of approximately ₹5,057 crore. Once fully operational, officials estimate that the daily revenue from the line could exceed ₹60 lakh. In its early stages, ridership is projected at around 25,000 commuters per day, which is expected to generate daily earnings between ₹10-15 lakh.

A complete journey along the Yellow Line is expected to take roughly 38 minutes one way. This expansion is anticipated to significantly improve the efficiency and capacity of the city's public transport system, easing congestion and offering faster connectivity for Bengaluru's commuters.

India's Growing Metro Infrastructure

India ranks third globally in terms of operational metro network length and is poised to move into second place in the near future. Across the country, metro systems collectively serve nearly one crore passengers daily. Bengaluru's Namma Metro is the second-longest metro network in India, accommodating over eight lakh daily commuters.

The addition of the Yellow Line marks a major leap forward in Bengaluru's urban transit, offering enhanced connectivity and improved convenience for both residents and travelers alike.
