The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has made significant headway on the RV Road-Bommasandra Yellow Line, having received the Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) report-an essential step toward launching operations.

This development paves the way for an inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), a mandatory process before the line becomes operational.
According to officials, CMRS (Southern Circle) A M Chowdhary is set to conduct inspections along the Yellow Line from July 22 to 24. A follow-up visit to the Operations Control Centre at the Baiyappanahalli depot is scheduled for July 25. These evaluations are crucial to verify safety standards and ensure compliance with regulatory norms ahead of the public rollout.

Key Updates on the Yellow Line
The Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) report was jointly prepared by an Italian state agency, Siemens India Ltd, and Siemens AG, who are responsible for the Yellow Line's signaling system. Completion of the report was delayed due to technical issues with key datasets that required urgent software updates. Until the ISA certification was obtained, BMRCL was unable to proceed with the CMRS inspection process.
The ISA specifically evaluated crucial safety parameters for the driverless metro trains that will operate on this line. Typically, CMRS inspections lead to conditional approvals, requiring BMRCL to address specific recommendations before receiving final approval from both state and central authorities.
Operational Strategy and Future Expansion
BMRCL plans to commence Yellow Line operations with three trains running at 25-minute intervals initially. Former Managing Director M Maheshwar Rao had previously indicated an expected launch date of August 15. Additionally, Titagarh Rail Systems Limited is scheduled to begin delivering two new trains per month starting in September, with a total of 15 trains projected to be operational by March 2026.
The Yellow Line covers a 19.15 km stretch between RV Road and Bommasandra, effectively connecting Electronics City and other parts of South Bengaluru to the metro network. This new line is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion at the heavily burdened Silk Board Junction.
The project marks a critical milestone in the ongoing expansion of Bengaluru's metro infrastructure, offering improved connectivity and reduced commute times for residents in the city's southern corridor.
