In Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the first phase of Metro Line 9 on Tuesday. This new route connects Dahisar East to Kashigaon and links Mumbai with nearby Mira-Bhayandar in Thane district, and it will be open to the public from Wednesday. The project cost around ₹6,607 crore
and includes eco-friendly features like solar panels, LED lights, and rainwater harvesting.
Mumbai Metro Trains
Fadnavis flagged off the train and travelled on it along with Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and other officials. He said the government is working to create an easy, connected transport system in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region by combining metro trains, electric buses, and water transport. He added that Mumbai now has over 100 km of metro lines, making it second in India after Delhi. Many more metro projects are expected to be completed within the next two years, and the city aims to build an even larger network in the future.

With this launch, Mumbai now has five working metro lines, including major routes like Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova and the Aqua Line connecting Colaba to Bandra Kurla Complex. The first phase of Line 9 is 5.6 km long and has four stations: Dahisar East, Pandurangwadi, Miragaon, and Kashigaon. Officials said that most work on the second phase is almost complete and will open later this year. Once fully ready, the metro will reduce travel time from one to two hours to about 30 minutes.
The new line will also improve access to important areas like Andheri and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, making daily travel faster and more convenient.
