Indian Railways has revealed the design of India's first bullet train, which will run on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail corridor. A picture of the proposed bullet train has been displayed at the Ministry of Railways in New Delhi, near Gate Number 4.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train
The bullet train project, officially called the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) Project, will cover a distance of 508 km. According to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the route will pass through Maharashtra, Gujarat, and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The corridor will have 12 stations, including Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Billimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati.
Construction Work
Construction work is progressing at different stations along the route. Foundation work has already been completed at eight stations in Gujarat, while work is continuing at Thane, Virar, and Boisar in Maharashtra. Excavation work at the Bandra Kurla Complex station in Mumbai is almost complete.
Project Inclusion
The project also includes the construction of several bridges. So far, 17 river bridges have been completed. Work is moving quickly on major bridges over the Narmada, Mahi, Tapti, and Sabarmati rivers in Gujarat. Construction of four river bridges in Maharashtra is also underway. At the Bandra Kurla Complex site, around 91 percent of the excavation work has been finished. Construction of the undersea tunnel section has also started, and about 4.8 km between Ghansoli and Shilphata has already been completed.
How will the Project Develop Indian Railways?
Indian Railways said the project will strengthen India's high-speed rail technology under the "Make in India" initiative. Integral Coach Factory and BEML Limited are jointly developing the train sets, which are expected to have a design speed of 280 kmph. The government has also completed the acquisition of all 1,389.5 hectares of land needed for the project. Officials said affected people were compensated according to land acquisition laws and rehabilitation policies.
The bullet train system is being developed with support from Japanese Railways and has been modified to suit Indian weather and operating conditions while ensuring passenger safety and affordable ticket prices.
