The Metro Line 10 project, which will connect Gaimukh in Thane to Shivaji Chowk in Mira-Bhayander, is finally beginning to move forward. After a review meeting, transport minister Pratap Sarnaik announced that the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is likely to begin the tender process by December 15, which marks

an important step in starting the long-awaited project.
Mumbai Metro Line 10 Project
This line is planned as a fully elevated corridor and is considered one of the most difficult routes to build in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The main challenge comes from the fact that the route passes through forest areas and hilly terrain. Construction may require cutting portions of hills and adjusting slopes in the ghat section, which means the project will need several environmental permissions before work can begin. The estimated cost of the line is around ₹8,000 crore.
Metro Line 10 To Improve Travel
Once completed, Metro Line 10 is expected to improve travel between Thane and Bhayander. At present, commuters often face heavy traffic on the Ghodbunder Road, the only major direct road link between the two places. Other options are either long detours through Bhiwandi or Powai, or switching between trains and metro lines via Dadar or Ghatkopar-Andheri. The new line will provide a faster, more reliable option and will also form part of a larger network connecting both suburbs to South Mumbai and other parts of Thane.
Senior officials, including Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Ashwin Kumar Mudgal, Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, and Mira-Bhayander Municipal Commissioner Radha Binod Sharma, attended the meeting. MMRDA has also asked the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation to begin the process of securing land permissions.
Technical Challenges
Experts have pointed out technical challenges such as track alignment, maintaining smooth curves, and ensuring the required 6.5-metre clearance above roads. Authorities want to obtain all environmental approvals before construction begins to avoid delays. According to early estimates, the project will take about three years to complete once work starts.
