Manohar International Airport in Mopa, a brand-new airport in Goa that will be officially opened by the prime minister in December 2022, has begun conducting commercial flights. At nine in the morning on January 5, 2023, IndiGo's inaugural flight touched down at the new Mopa airport.

With a direct flight from Hyderabad to Goa, operations for the airline's 6E network began, making Hyderabad the 76th domestic & 102nd overall destination.

V K Singh, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, participated virtually in the event. Shripad Naik, the Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, and Pramod Sawant, the Chief Minister, was in session.

On December 11, 2022, Goa's second international airport was opened at Mopa in north Goa by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Travelers will find it simple to reach nearby tourist attractions like Chapora Fort, Anjuna Beach, Vagator Beach, Fort Aguada, The Church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, Candolim Beach, Baga Beach, Calangute Beach, Reis Magos Fort, Sinquerim Beach, Basilica of Bom Jesus, and more thanks to the airport's location.

168 flights a week will be operated between Mopa and eight domestic cities, including Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, Jaipur, Chennai, and Ahmedabad, according to IndiGo, which announced the start of operations at the Mopa International Airport.

An instrumental band welcomed the travelers on the IndiGo aircraft from Delhi, who were among the first ones to land at the new Goan airport. Flowers were also given to them. At 8.34 am, approximately 30 minutes before the stated arrival time, the airplane touched down.

According to Naik, a new airport would boost travel and help Goa establish itself as a center for the export of perishable items like fruits, vegetables, and fish. This would generate employment possibilities, boost villagers' incomes, and draw tourists from all around India. According to the Minister, the Union government is concentrating on Goa's growth, and additional projects will soon be completed.

Goa has long been a well-liked tourist destination, but CM Sawant claims that due to the Dabolim airport's status as a defense airport, there are restrictions on air traffic. He stated that Goa would be accessible to 18 new international and 30 new domestic locations with the construction of the new airport.
