The Railway Ministry has recently given its nod to the introduction of a new weekly train service connecting Mangaluru and Rameswaram. This decision comes as a boon for passengers and commuters who have long awaited a direct train route between these two prominent destinations. New Weekly Express Train: Mangaluru-Rameswaram Route

  1. The newly approved Train No. 16622, named the Mangaluru-Rameswaram Weekly Express, is scheduled to commence its journey from Mangaluru at 7:30 p.m. every Saturday.
  2. This train will make its way through various stations including Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Shoranur, Palakkad, Pollachi, Palani, Oddanchatram, Dindigul, Madurai, Manmadurai, and Ramanathapuram before reaching its final destination, Rameswaram, at 11:45 a.m. on Sundays.
  3. Conversely, Train No. 16621 will depart from Rameswaram at 2:00 p.m. every Sunday and conclude its journey in Mangaluru at 5:50 a.m. on Mondays.

Key Features of the New Train Service

  • The Mangaluru-Rameswaram Weekly Express will consist of 22 coaches, offering various classes including AC, sleeper, and general compartments.
  • This service caters to the long-standing demand of passengers and commuter associations for a direct train route between Mangaluru and Rameswaram, providing convenience and accessibility for travelers.
  • Additionally, pilgrims visiting sacred sites such as Palani and Madurai will greatly benefit from this new railway service, facilitating their journey and pilgrimage experience.

Introduction of Tuticorin-Mettupalayam-Tuticorin Bi-weekly Express

In addition to the Mangaluru-Rameswaram route, the Ministry has also announced the introduction of the Tuticorin-Mettupalayam-Tuticorin Bi-weekly Express train service. This new service, which has been introduced due to continuous requests from passenger associations and travelers, aims to improve connectivity and accessibility in the region. With 18 coaches, the train will stop at significant stations such as Kovilpatti, Sattur, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Dindigul, Oddanchatram, Palani, Udumalaipet, Pollachi, Kinthukadavu, and Coimbatore.
