The Uttar Pradesh government is making detailed arrangements for the Maha Kumbh Mela, set to witness a massive gathering on January 29, Mauni Amavasya. With an expected turnout of 8-10 crore devotees for the holy bath, authorities are focused on ensuring safety and smooth movement in Prayagraj.

No-Vehicle and No-VIP Zone
To manage the large crowd, the government has declared the entire Maha Kumbh area a no-vehicle and no-VIP zone. This decision ensures an uninterrupted and equal experience for all pilgrims. Vehicles will be parked in designated lots outside the main event area, and there will be no special passes or privileges for VIPs.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Vaibhav Krishna shared the detailed plan to prevent congestion. Pilgrims will be directed to specific bathing spots based on their entry points into the city. For example, those arriving from the Arail side will bathe at Arail Ghat, while those coming from Jhusi will use Jhusi Ghat. This zonal system, along with vehicle restrictions from January 27 to January 30, aims to streamline the flow of pilgrims.
Special Provisions for Sadhus and Train Travelers
The administration has made exclusive arrangements for the 13 akharas performing the Shahi or Amrit Snan. Dedicated entry and exit points will ensure their smooth participation, supported by additional security forces.
Indian Railways is also playing a vital role, organizing 150 trains to Prayagraj to manage the 10-20 lakh pilgrims traveling by rail. On Mauni Amavasya, trains will depart every four minutes, easing the journey for devotees.
Preparations in Other Religious Towns
Nearby religious towns like Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Mirzapur are preparing for increased footfall. Ayodhya expects 10-15 lakh visitors daily during Mauni Amavasya. Pilgrim numbers in these towns have already surged, with a significant rise anticipated during the holy bath.
Criticism and National Attention
Despite these efforts, Congress MP Ujjwal Raman Singh has criticized the arrangements, especially concerning the sadhus, kalpavasi, and pilgrims. He urged the government to address these concerns before the event.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are expected to visit Prayagraj during the Maha Kumbh Mela, underlining the event's national importance.
As Mauni Amavasya approaches, the Uttar Pradesh government is working to ensure a peaceful and memorable experience for millions of devotees. By prioritizing safety, organization, and equality, the Maha Kumbh Mela promises to be a grand and spiritually enriching celebration.
