Cricket fever is set to take over Kolkata as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 begins with an exciting match featuring Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens on March 22, 2025. To make travel easier for fans, the Kolkata Metro Railway has announced special metro services. These services will help cricket lovers from Kolkata and nearby areas reach the stadium conveniently, avoiding traffic jams and parking troubles.
Special Metro Services for IPL Fans
To accommodate the large crowd expected for the IPL opener, the Kolkata Metro will run special trains on two metro lines: the Blue Line and Green Line-2. These additional services will help fans return home safely and quickly after the match.
Ticketing and Fare Details
Fans using these metro services can buy tickets from the Old Esplanade Metro station and New Esplanade Metro station. Passengers can purchase Smart Cards, Tokens, and Paper-Based QR Tickets for their journey. However, a surcharge of Rs 10 will be added to the regular metro fare during these special services.
Blue Line Special Metro Services
The Blue Line will operate two special services after the match:
- Spl.1: Leaves Esplanade at 00:15 hours and reaches Dakshineswar at 00:48 hours.
- Spl.2: Also departs from Esplanade at 00:15 hours but heads towards Kavi Subhas, arriving at 00:48 hours.
Both trains will stop at all stations along their routes, making it convenient for passengers traveling in different directions.
Green Line-2 Special Metro Service
The Green Line-2 will also run a special train after the match:
- Spl.1: Departs Esplanade at 00:15 hours and reaches Howrah Maidan by 00:23 hours.
This ensures that fans heading towards Howrah can easily catch the metro after the game.
