After the successful launch of Kochi Metro, people are using the services with joy and there has been an increase in ridership. Hence, Kochi Water Metro Limited (KWML) decided to increase the services on the new Vyttila-Kakkanad route.
On Thursday, 4th May 2023, Kochi Water Metro Limited announced the new routes stating that from today onwards KWML will operate on the Vyttila-Kakkanad route as well. So, now in total KWML is providing its services on two routes including the first between Kerala High Court- Vypin which started on 26th April Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it on 25th April 2023.
From the Kakkanad terminal, feeder buses as well as auto rickshaws will run to Civil Station & Infopark, according to a statement from KWML.

Timings:
Currently, from 8 am to 11 am & from 4 pm to 7 pm, only one boat is running the route. Every morning and evening, there are three trips. More boats are operating on the High Court-Vypeen route, according to officials, because of the significant increase in passenger traffic in that area.
Boats would be running every 45 minutes from 7:45 AM to 13:00 from the Vyttila terminal & from 8:25 AM to 13:40 from Kakkanad, according to the schedule for the additional services issued by KWML. Boats would leave from both terminals every 45 minutes in the afternoon as well, after 3 PM, it stated.

In order to avoid using paper tickets, Water Metro services currently employ recyclable radio-frequency identification cards. The two water metro routes' total ridership on April 30 & May 1 had surpassed 10,000.
Kochi Water Metro has been a major hit and received a very good response from people using the services for commuting between Kerala High Court- Vypin. Loknath Behera, Managing Director (KMRL and KWML) expressed that all of the services have received positive feedback from customers.

A Brief About Kochi Water Metro:
India's first water metro has been launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi 0n Tuesday, 25th April 2023 in Kochi, Kerala. This Kochi Water Metro service is part of the Kochi Metro Rail Corporation Limited project.
This one-of-a-kind boat service is connected to the metro rail network. Similar to how we have metro/ airport feeder bus services, these boats will serve as a feeder service. Commuters can ride Kochi's surface metro and water metro with a single "Kochi-1" card. Digital ticket purchases are also possible.
