The state of Kerala, renowned for its picturesque landscapes and rich cultural heritage, has recently been witnessing a resurgence of COVID-19 cases. According to the Union Health Ministry's data, Kerala reported a total of 115 fresh COVID-19 infections within the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of active virus cases in the state to 1,749.

Rise in COVID-19 cases
The 115 new cases in Kerala are part of the 142 reported from across the country till 8 am on Tuesday, as detailed on the Ministry's website. Thankfully, no deaths due to the virus were reported from the state during this period. The number of people who have recovered, been discharged or migrated after being diagnosed with the infection in the last 24 hours stands at 112.

Kerala's Battle with the New COVID Sub-variant
With the recent surge in cases, the total number of cases in Kerala under the cured, discharged or migrated category has risen to 68,36,979 till date. As countries like the US, China, and Singapore grapple with a surge in COVID cases, India too has seen an uptick. The country recorded 288 new coronavirus infections, and the active cases have increased to 1,970, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday. A new cause for concern is the detection of the new Covid sub-variant JN.1 in Kerala, prompting neighbouring Karnataka to issue a health advisory to raise awareness about the viral infection.
Despite the concerning rise in COVID-19 cases, the authorities are making continuous efforts to combat the virus spread. The situation demands constant vigilance from the public, adherence to safety protocols, and voluntary reporting of symptoms if any. The Centre has urged states and union territories to remain alert, especially in light of the discovery of the new JN.1 variant. It is crucial to remember that while the world continues its fight against COVID-19, every individual plays a significant role in curbing the spread of the virus.
