The weather pattern over Kerala is gradually shifting from pre-monsoon activity toward monsoon-like conditions, bringing cloudy skies, rising humidity and increasing rainfall chances across central and southern parts of the state.

Yellow Alert Issued In 7 Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several districts including:

  • Thiruvananthapuram
  • Kollam
  • Pathanamthitta
  • Alappuzha
  • Kottayam
  • Idukki
  • Ernakulam

The alert has been issued due to the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall, which is generally classified as rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.

Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable locations, low-lying regions and hilly areas to remain alert as changing weather conditions may bring sudden rainfall intensity.

Kerala Temperature And Weather Conditions Today

Weather observations indicate predominantly cloudy conditions across several districts today.
Expected weather conditions:

  • Maximum temperature: Around 31°C
  • Minimum temperature: Around 27°C
  • Current conditions: Cloudy skies
  • Feels-like temperature: Up to 39°C in some areas
  • Humidity: Around 77%
  • Wind speed: Approximately 13 kmph
  • Rain probability: Around 20%, with chances increasing later in the day

Even though temperatures remain moderate compared to other southern states, high moisture levels may make conditions feel warmer and more uncomfortable.

Monsoon Arrival Expected Soon

Meteorological assessments indicate that the southwest monsoon is likely to reach Kerala around May 26, though the onset date can vary by a few days depending on atmospheric conditions.

Current weather systems over the Arabian Sea and adjoining regions are creating favourable conditions for rain development. Increasing cloud formation and intermittent showers over the past few days are also being viewed as indicators of approaching monsoon activity.

Fishing Advisory Issued Along Kerala-Lakshadweep Coast

Authorities have also cautioned fishermen regarding sea conditions. Weather officials have advised against fishing activities along the Kerala-Lakshadweep coast, citing the possibility of rough weather and strong winds.

Forecasts indicate:

  • Wind speeds of 40-50 kmph
  • Gusts reaching 60 kmph in some areas
  • Possibility of rough sea conditions
  • Precautionary Advisory For Residents

With thunderstorms and rain activity expected to continue, residents have been advised to take precautions:

  • Avoid open spaces during lightning activity
  • Stay away from trees and electric poles during storms
  • Secure loose outdoor items
  • Monitor local weather updates and district alerts
  • Avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rain

As Kerala inches closer to monsoon onset, weather conditions are expected to remain dynamic over the coming days, with rainfall activity likely to intensify further across parts of the state.
