Five northern districts of Kerala, from Malappuram to Kasaragod, are under a Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall on Thursday.

Kerala Under Yellow Alert on Thursday
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that these districts may experience heavy showers during the day as the monsoon remains active across the state.
The IMD has also predicted strong surface winds across Kerala and Lakshadweep. Wind speeds are expected to occasionally reach 50 to 60 kmph on Thursday. People have been advised to remain cautious, especially in coastal and hilly areas, as strong winds and heavy rain could lead to fallen trees, waterlogging and travel disruptions.
Educational Institutions will be Closed Today
Due to the rain forecast, the district collectors of Kozhikode, Wayanad and Malappuram have declared a holiday for all educational institutions on Thursday. However, university examinations and Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) exams will be conducted as per the scheduled timetable.
Rainfall Deficit in Kerala
Despite the recent heavy showers, Kerala continues to face a rainfall deficit this monsoon season. From June 1 to Wednesday morning, the state received only 59 cm of rainfall against the normal average of 82 cm, leaving it with a rainfall shortage of around 28 percent.
Relief Camp in Palakkad
Meanwhile, authorities have opened a relief camp in Palakkad after heavy rain increased the risk in tribal settlements. Tribal families from the Parachathi hill settlement were shifted to safer locations as a precaution. The relief camp has been set up at the Ayyappanpotta Cultural Centre in Malampuzha. At present, 13 people, including five men, three women, and five children, are staying at the camp while officials continue to monitor the weather situation.
