Kerala to Get More Rain: Weather to Turn Rainy with Yellow Alerts Issued by IMD

Kerala is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall over the next three days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This weather change is caused by weak westerly winds blowing at the lower levels of the atmosphere over Kerala and Lakshadweep. While a few places in Kerala have already experienced rain, most areas in Lakshadweep remain dry.

Kerala to Get More Rain

Rainfall Already Recorded in Parts of Kerala

On Friday, June 7, Kottayam received 2 cm of rain. Other places like Enamakkal in Thrissur, Venkurinji AWS in Pathanamthitta, Vaikkom AWS in Kottayam, and Kunnamkulam AWS in Thrissur recorded 1 cm each. These scattered showers are a result of the current weak wind activity. More areas in Kerala are expected to receive light to moderate rain soon.

Weather Alert from IMD

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall, which means 7 to 11 cm of rain may fall within 24 hours in some districts. On June 10, heavy rain is likely in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Ernakulam. On June 11, the alert extends to Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Kozhikode.

From June 10 to June 12, isolated heavy rain may occur in different parts of Kerala. On June 13, a few areas may receive even heavier rainfall, ranging from 7 to 20 cm. The IMD is keeping a close watch on the situation and will give more updates as needed.

Changes Expected from June 10

The weather is expected to change more noticeably starting Tuesday, June 10. A report by The Hindu says the wind direction and rainfall pattern may shift, bringing stronger rain to the region. The southwest monsoon has been weak in Kerala so far, but the upcoming changes could lead to better rainfall across the state.

As Kerala prepares for these weather changes, people are advised to keep track of IMD alerts and take precautions during heavy rain. Local authorities may issue guidelines to ensure safety, especially in areas that are more likely to flood.

In the coming days, Kerala may see a shift in the monsoon's behaviour. With close monitoring and proper awareness, residents can stay safe and prepared for the weather ahead.
